sadLeaving your child for the first time can be a difficult experience for you and your child. We understand very well the strange feeling your child is going through in a new environment with teachers who may be total strangers. Your cooperation and trust in the class teachers can prevent or ease such anxiety: | Help your child to get familiar to the classroom – look around, show your interest and if possible spend some time with the teachers and other children. | Hand your child to the class teacher after exchanging greetings. | If your child is crying or is making a fuss, assure your child that you will be back to get him/her. | Say a proper ‘goodbye’ with a hug or a kiss and leave immediately. Please do not leave without saying ‘goodbye’ as it can be terrifying for your child to find that you are suddenly gone. | Once you have said ‘goodbye’ and left your child, don’t keep coming back as this could upset your child even more. Most children do not remain upset long after the parent/ guardian is gone. | Please be prompt in fetching your child. Waiting can cause more anxiety. | Some children take longer than others to settle into a new situation, so please persevere with your child and make it as positive an experience as possible.
