The St. Simon Educational Complex consisting of Maktab Nasional, SRS Datuk Simon Fung and Taska & Tadika Datuk Simon Fung crossed another mile stone recently by conducting a Ground Breaking Ceremony to pave the way for construction works on the four acre field located on the school grounds. The ceremony was held on 15th March 2017 and officiated by His Grace Archbishop Datuk John Wong at 11:15 a.m. and witnessed by members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Governors, Project Committee and the students of SRS Datuk Simon Fung.
The construction of this complex started in February 1994 and was completed in November 1994. In 1995 the three schools decided to adopt the overall common name for our educational hub as St. Simon Educational Complex. The complex was the only building in the Kingfisher Park area at the time. The complex is fully owned by the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu and registered under the Malaysian Education Ministry with English as the main medium of teaching.
Maktab Nasional offers International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) as an enrichment program besides the Malaysian syllabus. SRS Datuk Simon Fung also offers Cambridge English for Life (CEFL) for their students to enrich their knowledge. Taska & Tadika Datuk Simon Fung offers fun activities for their students to grow and learn while educating children through play.
To have a school field to play, is a dream of every student and staff in the complex. With an area the size of an international football field, it is unfortunate that the field has been idle since it was built in 1995 due to the poor condition of the ground. With the initiative of some concerned parents and headed by the Headmistress of SRS Datuk Simon Fung, Mdm. Winnie Voo, the committee proposed to upgrade half of the field with an estimate cost of RM220,000. Donations towards the completion of the field are welcome and generous contributors can contact Mdm. Winnie Voo at 088-431680, Maktab Nasional Principal, Mr. Alexander Funk at 088-431687/088-435686 or Taska & Tadika Supervisor, Mdm. Caroline Stephens at 088-431681 for further details.
