Welcome to Maktab Nasional. We are the only private Catholic mission school in Sabah under the ownership and management of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. Established in 1985, we are the first of the three schools in the St Simon Educational Complex and over the last 30 years carved a name for ourselves as an education institution which focuses on a holistic approach to teaching and learning. Our students do not only receive good academic support from our staff of experienced teachers but also exposure to extra-curricular activities and spiritual and emotional development.
To strengthen our academic foundations and prepare our students for tertiary education, our students follow the syllabus as set out in the Curriculum Specifications by the Malaysia Ministry of Education (MOE). On top of that, we also offer an enrichment programme based on the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). This means that we are preparing our students to sit for two examinations when they are in Form 5 (17 years old).
Our school is also well known for actively nurturing our students to develop their strengths in the athletic field, musical and artistic talents and other areas such as public speaking and English competitions. Over the years, we have won numerous awards for competitions in choir, speeches, swimming, archery, athletics and many more.
We also want our students to mature and grow spiritually so we encourage our students to practice their own faiths freely. As a Catholic mission school, we want to impart Christian values to our students and we do this in Religious Knowledge and Bible Studies classes. We have regular masses in our chapel and encourage students to have quiet times to pray and reflect in the mornings before classes commence.
As part of our school’s improvement plan, we have implemented a Parental Partnership programme to encourage more parental involvement in their child’s learning.
I hope you will join us on this journey to realise the school’s mission “to develop each individual to their fullest potential, through a life of openness to learning and change, motivated by the right values and equipped with knowledge and creativity to become what God calls us to be”.
